Holy Cross Energy’s Time of Use (TOU) program offers a smart way to save on electricity by shifting energy usage to off-peak hours. Under this plan, electricity rates are significantly lower outside of 4 to 9 pm, when demand is highest. Customers who adjust their energy habits can take advantage of off-peak rates at just $0.065/kWh, compared to $0.245/kWh during peak hours.
Integrating a solar energy system with the TOU rate plan can further enhance savings. Solar panels typically generate the most electricity during midday hours, which, under the TOU structure, are off-peak times. By utilizing solar power during these periods, homeowners can reduce their reliance on grid electricity when rates are higher.
To maximize benefits, pairing solar panels with a battery storage system allows excess energy produced during off-peak hours to be stored and used during on-peak times. This strategy minimizes grid consumption when electricity is most expensive, leading to greater cost savings.
By combining solar energy with HCE’s TOU rate plan, members can optimize their energy usage, reduce costs, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
